Brielpoort. Temple of Rock

40 years after the establishment of the Brielpoort, the mudel organizes an exhibition that turns its focus on the thriving music period of this well-known Temple of Rock. Madness, The Cure, AC / DC, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, U2, De Kreuners, Dire Straits, The Ramones, ... many famous groups came to give concerts in the Brielpoort to an audience from all over Belgium that found its way to Deinze.

Kris Verleyen and Dirk Huys started in the late 1970s with the organization of small concerts of often somewhat alternative music, which took place in the auditorium Ter Wilgen in Petegem. When the Brielpoort opened its doors in the center of Deinze in 1977, it seemed obvious to move the concerts to this great hall. The programming became more extensive, the bands more international and the spectators more numerous. Soon, world-class bands would find their way to the East Flemish center city. In 1980, no one less than Madness, The Cure and AC / DC took to the stage that very year. But also De Kreuners, U2, Dire Straits, Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, ... came to play concerts to an audience from all over Belgium that found its way to Deinze.

The Brielpoort remained the hotspot for every fan of rock and pop until the early 2000s. Thanks to first-hand testimonies and a call launched though the press, we bring an exhibition full of exclusive content that takes visitors before and behind the scenes of the Brielpoort.
